HNL Lab Medicine

HNL Lab Medicine, a full-service medical laboratory, provides testing and related services to doctors’ offices, hospitals, long-term care facilities, employers, and industrial customers.

Its wide-ranging expertise includes routine drug tests; genetic testing for the diagnosis of conditions such as prenatal cystic fibrosis; pathogen tests to identify infections from the flu, strep and other illnesses; and much more.

HNL was on the front lines during the pandemic and its innovations during that time included developing the ability to perform COVID tests that had previously only been done in government labs.

HNL operates in more than 60 locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and produces more than 60 million pathology results for 3 million patients and 12,000 health care providers annually.

The lab traces its history to when the pathology services of Lehigh Valley Hospital Center and Allentown Hospital merged in 1985, leading to the establishment of Health East Laboratories. By 1998, the organization consolidated and became a for-profit limited partnership under a reorganization. Among the equity partners are Lehigh Valley Health Network and Good Shephard Rehabilitation.
